GMapper14 from Lifehacker.com figured out a way to use Chromecast on the Kindle Fire! Below are the instructions.

Whoa! umer936 at xda-developers.com found a way to unleash extra settings on your Google Chrome browser for your Chromecast. Beware, if you do not know what you are doing, DON’T TAMPER WITH IT!
You can open this by going to ‘options’ under Google Cast extension then right click on ‘Inspect Element’ and uncheck ‘display:none’.

Google announced at their breakfast event today that you can purchase the Google Chromecast online and at brick and mortar stores. As we stand right now, both Google Play and Amazon are all sold out. If you missed the stock earlier, your best bet would be to call up a few Best Buy like this lucky fella.
